March 13: Celtic Night!

7:30 PM Footworks

Inspired by the high-energy Celtic music of Cape Breton Island, Footworks is a dynamic band that brings audiences the powerful rhythm and beautiful melodies of Celtic music. Footworks' traditional songs, rollicking fiddle, lovely Irish whistle, and strong guitar rhythm make for a delightful and unforgettable musical experience.

8:00 PM The Poor Cousins

Naomi Morse (fiddle, voice) and Emmet Mc Gowan (guitar, voice) have been playing music together since they met in York, England in 2006. Based in Vermont, the duo performs various styles of roots music including American old time, New England, Irish, Quebecois, and Scottish as well as their own arrangements of classical and popular pieces.

At home on both sides of the Atlantic, the husband and wife duo combine intimate, nourishing songs and gutsy tunes in an easy-going style.  On fiddle, Naomi finds sounds both fiery and flowing, blending seamlessly with Emmet's rhythmic and elegant guitar back-up.

9:00 PM Fifth Business

Like the weather in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont from which they hail, if you don't like the music of Fifth Business, just wait a minute! That English pub song might be followed by a set of Celtic fiddle tunes, or an original song about local affairs. Fifth Business has been blending music from the US and the British Isles for a dozen or so years now at farmers markets and other local venues. Classically trained violinist Nick Anzalone has been turned to the traditional side and leads the way with expressive fiddling; Stuart Corso contributes a lively button accordion; Hannah Davie adds depth with mandolin; and Steve Davie keeps it all together with guitar and octave mandolin (that's the weird-looking one). Along with Heather Alger and Kate Davie, everyone provides vocals in a repertoire that leans to songs about rural living and/or people who are behaving badly. If you need proof that folk music isn't necessarily politically correct, this is where you'll find it.
